I just finished a summer series called “Traction”, and in it I explored six reasons some Christians are stuck in a rut spiritually, spinning their wheels yet not moving anywhere. While this list isn’t exhaustive, it is biblical, as well as all too common.
Because some have asked, here’s a basic review of the reasons, its text, along with each week’s take-home truth. Plus, I’ve provided a link to our series page here, or to the individual video and audio links as well.
- Lack of Genuine Regeneration Part 1 (Ezekiel 37:1-14)
“Only Almighty God can bring about spiritual life and change.”
Hear | Watch - Lack of Genuine Regeneration Part 2 (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)
“Regeneration mandates gospel contact, gospel content, and gospel change, and all three act as the mysteriously clarifying evidence that God has supernaturally brought spiritual life to our dead bones.”
Hear | Watch - The Rot of Lingering Bitterness (Hebrews 12:12-17)
“The rot of bitterness can only begin to be removed when the power of God’s forgiveness in Christ replaces my decaying response of unbelief to a specific situation.”
Hear | Watch - The Absence of Biblical Forgiveness (2 Corinthians 5:1-11)
“Showing forgiveness matters because it is a primary way Christians and the church close the door on Satan’s evil schemes to destroy it from within.”
Hear | Watch - The Trap of Wrong Thinking (Colossians 3:1-4)
“Being heavenly minded (i.e., thinking with an eternal orientation based on my union with Christ) is the avenue by which we actually gain earthly traction. (i.e. living with a temporal effectiveness in my life for Christ).”
Hear | Watch - The Treadmill of Old Habits (Colossians 3:5-17)
“Shedding the clothes of, and saying NO to, old fleshly habits is only sustained by dressing in the garments of Christ, namely saying YES to his work (gospel), his body (church), and his Word (Bible).”
Hear | Watch - The Leash of Negative Relationships (Proverbs 13:20-21)
“Traction comes when we cut the cord of deep connection with those who consistently refuse to listen and follow God’s Word.”
